Saudi Arabia Launches National Aid Campaign for Gaza; Emergency Arab Summit Planned
In a significant humanitarian gesture, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia have directed the launch of a national aid campaign for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Saudi aid agency KSrelief will oversee this campaign, which aims to provide much-needed assistance to the people of Gaza.
The campaign was initiated with generous donations from King Salman and the Crown Prince, who contributed SR50 million, with King Salman donating SR30 million of the total. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, adviser at the Royal Court and supervisor general of KSrelief, emphasized that the fundraising efforts will be facilitated through the agency’s Sahem platform and Sahem application, as well as a unified bank account dedicated to the campaign. Donors can also make contributions through multiple channels on KSrelief’s website.
This campaign underscores Saudi Arabia’s historical commitment to supporting the Palestinian people during times of crisis. The leadership’s actions reflect the core values of the nation.
Notably, KSrelief will not deduct any administrative fees from the donations, ensuring that the full amounts reach the intended beneficiaries.
The General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, led by Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, has called upon Muslims in Saudi Arabia to contribute to the campaign. The Grand Mufti expressed his appreciation for the Saudi leadership’s dedication to assisting those in need and the afflicted.
As of Thursday afternoon, the campaign has garnered significant support, with a growing number of donors accessing the Sahem platform, and donations totaling SR64,274,009.
In parallel, an emergency Arab summit is set to take place in Riyadh later this month, focusing on efforts to halt the violence in Gaza. These consultations, led by Saudi Arabia and Palestine, have been prompted by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s call for an emergency summit to address the Israeli attacks in Gaza. The meeting is scheduled for the morning of November 11 in Riyadh, and it is expected to bring together Arab leaders to discuss critical measures to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
